Following a hiatus lasting more than a week the seventh annual Digicel Schools Football Championship resumes today (Saturday), with several matches set for the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora and the No. #5 ground, Berbice.
Over at the West Demerara Facility, four matches will be staged. At 9:00am, Vreed-en-Hoop tackles Patentia Secondary while Stewartville opposes Uitvlugt Secondary from 10:30am.
The third fixture at 12:30pm will pit home side Leonora Secondary against Goed Fortuin, while the final contest at 2:00pm will witness Zeeburg Secondary against Windsor Forest.
In Berbice, Novar Secondary will match skills with Fort Wellington at 1:00pm, while defending zone champion Bush Lot Secondary, will lock horns with Mahaicony Secondary at 3:30pm.
The tournament will resume Monday at the Beterverwagting (BV) Community Centre. Annandale Secondary will battle LaBonne Intention from 14:00hrs, while Ann’s Grove engages Buxton United at 16:00hrs.
The tournament, which is scheduled to conclude July 31st, will feature more than 120 schools from each of the 10 administrative regions, competing in an elimination format.
Chase Academy is the defending champion while Christianburg/Wismar is the most successful school with four consecutive titles (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015) in six successive final appearances.
The other winner of the tourney was Government Technical Institute (GTI) in the inaugural edition (2011). Winner of the event will receive $1,000,000 towards a school project and a trophy.
The second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $700,000, $400,000 and $350,000 towards a school initiative and the respective accolade.
