Plaisance Secondary will battle Marian Academy in the u19 Boys finale of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Regional Conference Championship, following semi-final wins over President College and Government Technical Institute (GTI) respectively Thursday.
Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Plaisance Secondary defeated President’s College 52-47 in the ‘East Coast of Demerara derby’.
Trailing 19-24 at the end of the first period, Plaisance Secondary secured the come-from-behind win, scoring an impressive 33 points, while restricting their opponents to 23 points.
Nigel Bowen he recorded a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. He was assisted by Andrew Johnson and Reuben Reid, who netted 10 points each.
Anton Fileen battled to figures of 19 points and seven rebounds, while Akeem Crandon accumulated a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for President’s COllege.
In the other semi-final Marian Academy defeated Government Technical Institute by a 34-29 margin. The Carifesta Avenue outfit survived a second half offensive assault to clinch the result, after taking a commanding 22-6 lead at the end of the first period.
GTI almost secured the unlikely result as they outscored their opponent 23-12. Timothy Thompson led the Carifesta Avenue unit with another double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Jether Harris also tallied 10 points alongside eight rebounds in the victory, while Jahleel Young added an invaluable nine points and six rebounds.
For the Woolford Avenue side, Shamar Huntley registered a game high 15 points. Up to press time, the finals of the Regional Conference Championship were underway at the same venue.
Meanwhile, the National School Basketball Festival also known as the National Championships, is slated to start at the same location on Monday, July 3rd from 13:00hrs.
