The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has blamed the negligence of three officers for discoloured water received in Georgetown yesterday.
According to a press statement from the agency, the officers who were on duty during the shift of 23:00hrs June 30 to 07:00hrs July 1, 2017, failed “to apply the chemicals at the required dosage to ensure discolouration is removed from the water, which may have been observed by citizens.”
The statement noted that the officers were discovered to be sleeping during the period and despite being informed by the lab that the colour was deviating from normal took no action.
As a result, residents would have received the discoloured water from 03:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs. The problem has since been corrected and the agency has apologised for any inconvenience the negligent actions caused. GWI also reaffirmed its commitment to providing a service of quality water aligned to the standards set out by the World Health Organization.
