Watery truck stop: The driver of this Hiab truck escaped unhurt after he plunged head-on into a ditch at Farm, East Bank Essequibo on Friday morning. The driver, who was journeying from Parika, developed steering problems, lost control of the vehicle and skidded off the wet road. He was also said to have been speeding at the time. The accident resulted in the breakage of a pipeline in the ditch. Staff at the nearby Guyana Water Incorporated pump station were contacted and they disconnected the water, pending repairs to the line. After two backhoes (as seen in photo) made several unsuccessful attempts to remove the truck, a low-bed Hiab from the same company that the truck is registered with, arrived at the scene and pulled it out. No one was hurt.
