Dear Editor,
GTT, after about six or seven years since they laid the fiber-optic cables, has finally arrived in La Grange, West Bank Demerara to deliver their promised service of land-line telephones, after the atrocious implementation of the now defunct Fixed Wireless Access telephone system. However, there is a catch, you must also subscribe to their internet service as well or else no phone lines! I wonder where this new corporate strategy came from?
I was told by one of their mobile customer service representatives that you must take the internet too before they will give you a phone line. In my knowledge of legal telecommunication practice around the world this simply cannot be done! The lowest internet plan that they have is $9,600 and that does not include the telephone service fee nor any other fees associated with installation etc. A bonus to taking this service though is that the first month is free. My point here is this, they are bundling their services; you do not have a choice of the telephone line and then deciding later, maybe when the economy starts booming again, to subscribe to one of their internet plans. Where is the PUC on this very unfair business practice?
Yours faithfully,
