– Match between Berbice and President’s XI abandoned
Demerara’s female Under – 19 cricket team yesterday defeated Essequibo by 95 runs in the opening match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female Under-19 tournament at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road.
Essequibo won the toss and elected to field and Demerara responded by scoring 136 for 9 from their allotted 20 overs. Opener Casey Charles was Demerara’s main contributor, stroking 36 from 34 balls which included three fours and a solitary maximum. She received support from Kaysia Schultz who made 14.
Essequibo’s bowling was led by Stacy Moses who grabbed 3-23 from four overs while Kimmone Thomas (2-30), Eylinda Abrams (2-30) and Devina Byer (2-19) all took two wickets apiece.
Essequibo, in reply, were quickly shout out for 41 runs in 7.5 overs. National left-arm orthodox spinner Schultz, who contributed lower order runs, was the main destroyer with 3-13 from 3.5 overs. She received support from skipper Mandy Mangru 2-1 to wrap up their commanding victory.
The second match between Berbice and the President’s XI had to be abandoned due to rain. Berbice, before the abandonment, were coasting along on 43 without loss after 3.3 overs when play was called off.
The competition continues today at the same venue which will see the President’s XI doing battle against Demerara at 09:00hrs, while Essequibo is set to playing Berbice from 13:30hrs.
