The inaugural Corona Beer Invitational Football Championship will kick-off today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda with a tripleheader.
In the opening fixture at 17:00hrs, Northern Rangers will lock horns with Eastveldt, while the second matchup at 19:00hrs will pit Mocha based unit Riddim Squad, against Flamingo. The final will fixture at 21:00hrs will pit Santos against arch-rival and Elite League dropout Pele FC.
The event, which will be played in a group format, features 12 teams under the umbrella of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA). Group-A consists of Northern Rangers, Eastveldt, Riddim Squad, Flamingo, Pele and Santos.
Group-B features Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force (GPF), GFC, Camptown, Beacons and Black Pearl. Upon the completion of the group round, the elimination stage will commence.
The tourney continues on Wednesday at the same venue with three matches. At 17:00hrs, Western Tigers will battle Black Pearl while GFC will engage Camptown from 19:00hrs.
The final fixture will witness GPF taking aim at Beacons FC from 21:00hrs. Winner of the competition will receive $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth placed finishers will pocket, $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
