Telecommunications giant Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) Company on Tuesday presented 20 footballs to Tucville based giant Fruta Conquerors for use in their annual Summer Camp. The event, which is in its 10th year and which caters for boys and girls, will conclude July 28 and is expected to attract more than 50 individuals.
No registration fee is required.
GTT Public Relations Officer (PRO) Allison Parker, during brief remarks, disclosed that the donation will not be the only assistance afforded to the club during the programme.
Secretary of the club, Daniel Thomas, said that the objective of the initiative is to provide an avenue for the youths to be occupied during the holiday period.
According to Thomas, the programme is geared towards combining training in the discipline as well as academics [Mathematics and English].
He said that the club has acquired the services of two educators to aid in the teaching process adding that volunteer lecturers from the University of Guyana (UG) will also stage seminars with the older adolescents and parents. Thomas also disclosed that the club is now capable of providing meals for the participants through assistance from Scotiabank and the National Sports Commission.
