Three women, who were former employees of the Medicare Pharmacy, were yesterday accused of defrauding the business of over $2 million.
Valmattie Ramnarine, of 229 Area J, De Willem, West Coast Demerara, Selina Sookdeo, of 296 Old Road Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, and Bibi Zaheeda Khan, of 318 East Street, North Cummingsburg, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charges to them.
The first charge was read to Ramnarine, 23, and Khan, 43. It stated that the two, between May, 2016 and June 15, 2017, being employed as a clerk or servant, embezzled $1,604,989.31 taken into their possession for, or in the name or on account of Medicare Pharmacy.
A similar charge was then read to Sookdeo, 20, and Ramnarine. It stated that the two, between September 6, 2016 and June 2, 2017, at Medicare Pharmacy, embezzled $655,245.88.
The three women pleaded not guilty to their respective charges.
Subsequently, the Chief Magistrate granted the women $150,000 bail each and ordered that that they report every Friday at 9 to the sergeant-in-charge of the Fraud Section at the Brickdam Police Station.
The matters were then adjourned until August 4.
