A manhunt is underway in Berbice for a man who beat and raped a 75-year-old Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice woman, who succumbed in hospital yesterday afternoon.
Police said Jasodra Kalisar, of Grant 1779, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, was attacked in her home around 2 am yesterday morning by a man known to her.
Kalisar died at the New Amsterdam Hospital while she was receiving medical attention around 3 pm yesterday afternoon.
Police, in a press statement issued late last night, said that ranks are making every effort to apprehend the suspect.
The man reportedly fled the scene after committing the heinous attack.
After the attack, Kalisar, the statement said, rushed over to her daughter, who lives nearby, and related what transpired.
She was immediately rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
