Frank Thompson, the former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who was recorded verbally abusing a junior rank, was yesterday given a date for the commencement of this trial.
Thompson, of 154 Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, is charged with both using threatening language to Hemchand Budhai and using abusive language to Police Constable Leandre Gillis on February 22, at Broad Street, Georgetown.
The abusive language charge against Thompson is now before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The matter was transferred by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after the court heard that the police are prepared to proceed with the matter.
In the courtroom of Magistrate Azore, the court heard from the prosecutor, ASP Stephen Telford, that there will be a total of six witnesses. As a result, attorney Dexter Todd, who represents the accused, requested disclosure. The matter was then adjourned to July 25.
