The eighth annual Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic will take place in Linden August 12-13 at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
According to a press release from the organisers, the management committee of the Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic will launch the eighth annual competition Friday from 11am at Chicken’s Sports Bar on Republic Avenue in Linden.
The management committee comprises Colin Boyce (Co-Chairman); Edison Jefford (Co-Chairman); Faye Naughton (Treasurer); Carol Wilson (Secretary); Mark Scott (Competitions Director); Theo DeMonick (IT Manager) and Cheryl Sam (Committee Member).
“This Launch will be recorded live and rebroadcast in Linden at 9pm Friday night. As was evident last year, we will again be attracting the participation of athletes from the Caribbean and North America,” the release stated.
“This event has hosted several of the region’s most popular athletes in Guyana since 2010, including Aliann Pompey competing for the first time in Guyana at the Second Edition in 2011 and Marian Burnett a year later.
Every notable Guyanese athlete has competed at the Classic with most holding meet records, including Brenessa Thompson,” stated the release from the organisers.
