A businessman is now nursing a gunshot wound at a private medical institution after he and his wife were attacked and robbed by armed bandits early Sunday morning at Success, East Coast Demerara.
Khemraj Tula, 58, of North Success, East Coast Demerara is in a stable condition after he was shot during a robbery which took place at 3 am yesterday at his home.
According to a police statement, their investigations have revealed that Tula and his wife arrived home in their motor vehicle, a Toyota Rav4 PLL 1392 and were about to enter the house when they were pounced upon by two males, one armed with a handgun and the other with a cutlass.
The statement continued that the bandits then shot and lashed Tula before taking him and his wife into their house, where they ransacked and made off with valuables and the couple’s Toyota Rav4.
The press release added that police Investigations are in progress.
When Stabroek News visited Success North, some of the neighbours of Tula, said that they heard a lone gunshot but were too afraid to go outside. They also related to Stabroek News that this was not the first time the businessman was robbed. One neighbour who spoke to Stabroek News on the condition of anonymity, said that Tula was robbed about three or four months ago. The neighbour said that it was nothing serious and doubted the matter was ever reported. The residents who said they are also fearful for their lives, stated the need for police patrols along the East Coast corridor, especially in their community at nights.
