The home of television personality, Joel Ghansham was broken into on Saturday last, and bandits carted off approximately $7.5 million in cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Stabroek News was told that the bandits gained entry into Ghansham’s home, located at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, after cutting the security grill and breaking the back door.
Once inside, the men ransacked the house in their quest for valuables. A source close to the TV host said that he returned home shortly after midnight and noticed the gates were open. Upon entering his home, he noticed that the lights were on and immediately suspected something was amiss, and subsequently heard a tumbling in the back of his yard.
The source said he left the house, contacting a friend and neighbours who summoned the police to the scene.
It was relayed that after the police arrived, the broadcaster returned and immediately went to his bedroom where he found the room ransacked and a quantity of jewellery missing.
Further investigation revealed that the burglars escaped with US, T&T, Surinamese, and British currency which is estimated to be the equivalent of $2.5 million Guyana dollars.
Ghansham said among the items stolen from his property were his diamond jewellery.
