Two young men were yesterday released on $20,000 bail each by a city magistrate after they denied an armed robbery charge.
Jamal Barnes, 20, of 1833 Festival City, North Ruimveldt, and Azuma Small, of 174 Campbellville Housing Scheme, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, are alleged to have used a cutlass to rob someone of an iPhone, valued at $200,000, on July 21, at Campbellville, Georgetown.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore related to the court that Barnes and Small were subsequently arrested by police ranks, who were alerted about the attack.
With no objection to bail from the prosecution, Magistrate McLennan subsequently granted the men their release on $20,000 bail each and ordered that they report to the Kitty Police Station every Friday. The matter was adjourned until August 11.
