The Guyana Amazon Warriors team which is preparing for the 2017 Caribbean Premier League was involved in a light training session at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.
The team was seen going through its paces with the fitness instructor while head coach Roger Harper and his assistant Esaun Crandon inspected the playing surface and outfield.
The locally-based franchise was also involved in an early morning bonding session as is now a practice in the world of sports where players from all corners of the globe come together to share an unfamiliar dressing room.
Meanwhile, Crandon, touching on the afternoon session said it was advised for it to be ‘light’ since a number of the players only arrived in Guyana Tuesday evening.
“Basically we had a light session. Most of the guys came in last night and we had visa appointments today at the US embassy so it was advised by the trainers that the guys have a light session, today.”
Things, however, will intensify as Crandon pointed out that a physical workout is set for today with the players also set to be involved in a net session at the host venue.
The Warriors, according to Crandon, will play a couple of practice and simulation matches ahead of their opening fixture against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 5th in Florida, USA.
Crandon, though, indicated that a lot of work has to be done during the week leading up to their opening match with time being a factor.
“We have a packed schedule in the space of one week so we are trying to push in as much as we could and work smartly; touch as much as we can technically, tactically and physically and obviously get the guys in good shape for the competition coming,” he said. The 35-year-old Crandon indicated that the mood in the camp was one that reflects camaraderie and good team spirit.
