Escapee killed in confrontation with Joint Services

Acting Police Commissioner David Ramnarine today confirmed to the Department of Public  Information (DPI) that acting on information provided by the public the Joint Services executed an operation at approximately midday today in the East Ruimveldt ward of Georgetown which led to a confrontation with Lusignan Prison escapee Clive Forde aka El Sinkie.

16 inmates shot in Lusignan Prison unrest

Sixteen prisoners in the new holding area at the Lusignan Prison were shot with rubber bullets and pellets by members of the Joint Services yesterday afternoon as part of efforts to quell a violent unrest, including attacks on security officials, at the facility.

Murder accused Camp St escapee recaptured

After several reported sightings in Berbice, murder accused Stafrei Alexander, who was one of the six inmates who broke out from the Camp Street Prison on July 9, was recaptured in the county last evening by police, who credited information received from the public for the fugitive’s arrest.

Members of the Professional Guard Service, bank employees and police ranks gathered in front the Water Street location where the attack occurred.

Private sector to meet bankers on security

Following the admission by a Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited staffer earlier this month that he participated in a failed plot to rob the Water Street branch of its night deposit bags, the private sector is to seek a meeting with the bankers’ association on a range of security issues.
