Claude Blackmore, former President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), has been officially honoured by the Municipality of Trujillo, Peru for his sterling contribution to sport.
According to a release from the Municipality of Trujillo, the long serving sport administrator and sports enthusiast was honoured during the recent Pan American Under-20 Athletics Championship held in the city located in coastal northwestern province of Peru.
“This is how our Commune, valuing the trajectory of Claude Blackmore, has just estimated to express its recognition, granting him the official distinction of this local government,” a release from the municipality stated.
Blackmore, an International Technical Official in South America and the Caribbean, under the Pan American Athletics Association, received the Medal and Diploma of Honour for his important work and significant contribution in the field of sport, one of 17 persons to receive the award.
The Pan American Under-20 Athletics Championship is held every two years and offers young athletes from North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean the opportunity to develop their skills by competing with the best athletes in the hemisphere
In conferring the honour, the Municipality of Trujillo, in a detailed letter signed by Mr. Elidio Espinoza Quispe said it sought to recognise persons who have contributed to local, regional, national and international development.

Blackmore, in a brief response, said that he was grateful to the Municipality and people of Peru, for the recognition of his contribution to sport over the years.
