A young man was yesterday granted his release on $50,000 bail after he denied stealing a cellphone.
Alington Harper, 22, of 31 Garnett Street, Kitty, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was read a charge which stated that on June 20, at Regent Street, Georgetown, he stole a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, valued at $180,000, from Clifton Wallace.
Harper, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate McLennan in Georgetown.
According to the prosecution’s case against Harper, he was left in a bus by Wallace, whose phone was being charged in the vehicle. After Wallace discovered that the cellphone was missing, he made a report to the police, who later arrested the accused.
Although Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore had no objections to bail, he requested that it be a substantive amount.
Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently granted Harper his release on $50,000 bail and adjourned the proceedings until August 10, when it will be heard in Court 10 and 11.
