On a night that featured penalty kick wins for Buxton Stars and Plaisance, Golden Grove downed Golden Warriors 2-0, when the Hamilton Green Football Championship continued on Saturday at the Victoria Community Center ground.
Victor Solomon opened the scoring in the 28th minute, unleashing a powerful right foot shot, which took a deflection off the body of the defender and settled into the back of the net.
Derick Thomas sealed the win in the 84th minute, lashing an unchallenged right foot effort into the net from inside the box, after collecting a cross from the right side of the field.
Meanwhile, Buxton Stars edged Pouderoyen FC 4-2 on penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended at 1-1. Prior to the penalty shoot-out, Shamar Scott gave the Buxtonians the lead in the seventh minute.
Latching onto a clearance from goalkeeper Sherwin Bernard on the left side of the field, Scott unleashed a lobbed effort which sailed over the head of the custodian and into the back of the net. However, winger Esan Nelson equalised in the 39th minute, skipping past his marker while racing into the penalty area, before finishing past the advancing goalkeeper. Similarly, Plaisance downed Berbice unit Cougars 4-3 on penalty kicks, following a 3-3 score at the end of regulation and extra time. Winner of the tournament will receive $500,000 and the Minister of Citizenship Trophy.
