Ithaca Hardliners downed Canje Knights 48-38, when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) League Championship continued on Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball Court.
Philence Edwards top scored for the hosts with 16 points mainly from four three-point daggers. He was assisted by Ryan Solomon who chipped in with 14 points. The next best scorer with nine points was Hakel Benjamin.
For Canje Knights, Kevon Emmanuel tallied a game-high 18 points while Gladwin Kurt assisted with 14 points. No other scorers recorded double digits figures for the visitors.
Witnessed by a small crowd, the visitors seized control of the fixture in the first period which ended 12-7.
That proved to be the only lead Canje managed to secure in the contest, as the hosts stormed back to take the lead at the end of the second period.
The home side recorded 13 points, while restricting their opponents to four points to enter the halftime interval ahead at 20-16.
Upon the resumption of play, Ithaca marginally increased their advantage in the pivotal third period, outscoring Knights by a 10-8 to lead 30-24 entering the final stanza.
The contest was then sealed, as Ithaca outhustled Canje by an 18-14 margin in the fourth quarter.
The event will resume on Sunday at the Fyrish Court from 16:00hrs, with Ithaca Hardliners battling home side Fyrish Black Sharks.
The tournament, which concludes August 13th, features six teams competing in an initial group format. Group-A comprise of Canje Knights, Fyrish Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners.
Group-B features Rose Hall Town Jammers, Hopetown Steelers and New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors. The sponsor of the championship is Nigel Hinds Financial Net.
