In an effort to prepare for the hosting of the 2017 Indoor Pan American Cup, the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) following consent from the Ministry of Sport, has imported an indoor plastic tile surface for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
According to an official release from the GHB, “With the permission of the Ministry of Sport, the Guyana Hockey Board has imported an indoor plastic tile floor similarly to what is used in North America for almost all indoor sports.”
The released added, “Yesterday we laid the floor down in the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). The floor is suitable for basketball and many other sports and solves the hockey problem of the uneven wood surface. The floor is movable and so it can be picked back up at any time if needed.”
A press conference is to be held today at the same venue for the official unveiling of the surface. Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, along with the United States of America Ambassador, Perry Holloway, is scheduled to attend the unveiling.
The event which is set for October 14th-23rd, will consist of two divisions. On the men’s side, the other competing teams are Argentina, Canada, Barbados, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America (USA)
In the women’s division, Argentina, Canada, Barbados, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and the USA are the other participating nations.
