Three members of a Kildonan family were yesterday charged with possession of a shotgun.
Herman De Souza, 61, his wife, Seeranie, 51, and their son Devon, 18, all of Kildonan Village, Corentyne, pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The three, who were represented by attorney Rodwell Jugmohan, denied ownership of the firearm and were placed on $75,000 bail each by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
They will return to court on September 11.
According to information gathered, police placed the family under arrest on Tuesday evening, after a search was conducted on their two-storey house at Kildonan Village, Corentyne. The police, acting on information received, reportedly discovered a single-barrel improvised shotgun neatly hidden in the lower flat of the house.
Commander of ‘B’ Division Paul Williams earlier in the week launched “Operation Focus” in the county. He had noted that several raids and searches would be carried out so as to keep the division safe.
