Three men were yesterday charged with the murder of Dhanpaul Dookie, who was fatally stabbed during a robbery at his Uitspa Village, Demerara River home last week.
Chanderpaul Persaud, 45, Harilall Ramdan, 54, and Javishwar Ghani, 29, were read a joint charge, which stated that between July 24 and July 26, at Uitspa Village, Linden Highway, they murdered Dookie, called “Pauline,” in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Persaud, a farmer, Ramdan, also a farmer, and Ghani, a fisherman, were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Magistrate Faith McGusty remanded the trio and adjourned the matter to August 7, when it will be heard in the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate.
According to information previously released by the police, the lifeless body of 51-year-old Dookie, a labourer/ vendor, was discovered with multiple stab wounds at his Uitspa Village, Demerara River home.
Police subsequently said three suspects, including a former murder accused, had been arrested in relation to the murder of Dookie and had admitted to the crime.
