Scores of Dynamic Airways and Fly Jamaica passengers travelling to North America were left stranded at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) after aircraft from both airlines developed mechanical issues in New York.
The Dynamic Airways delay occurred on Friday morning, while the Fly Jamaica flight delay was recorded on Thursday.
However, local spokesman for Dynamic Airways, Captain Gerry Gouveia said the mechanical issue had been rectified.
He explained that flights were back on schedule and the first was expected to depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York last night for Guyana, while passengers from Guyana were expected to leave this morning at around 8.30.
Gouveia said that they would be working around the clock to ensure that all passengers arrive at their destinations, while adding safety is priority.
Stabroek News was told that passengers were upset after they were given different departure times with no explanation when the flights continued to be cancelled.
Stabroek News was unable to get a comment from officials of Fly Jamaica. However, the airline, on its Facebook page posted a flight advisory, updating passengers of the new schedule for August 4-7.
Fly Jamaica passengers flying out of New York were scheduled to depart at midnight last night, while local passengers are expected to be leaving the CJIA at 8.45 this morning.
