Contracts for consultancy services for the reconstruction of the St. Roses High School as well as the design of landfill sites at Bartica, Mahdia and Linden were among 29 multi-million dollar awards which received no-objection by Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday, Minister of State Joseph Harmon announced yesterday.
Harmon informed that a US$134,790 contract has been awarded to the Bynoe, Rowe and Wilshire Partnership for the provision of consultancy services for the reconstruction of the Church Street, Georgetown school. He would later inform that the proposal is for the school to be rebuilt at its present location, as opposed to relocating it.
Harmon told reporters that a $27.9 million contract has also been awarded to S and K Construction Services for the construction of a special needs school at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, after a survey found that many children residing in Region Three with disabilities required skills training.
He said too that a $36.1 million women’s dormitory will be constructed by BK International at the Bina Hill Institute, Annai, while Bedford House will be rehabilitated after a $24.2 million contract was awarded to Vision General Construction Services.
Meanwhile, CEMCO Incorporated was also awarded contracts for consultancy services in the sum of $47,403,813 for the design of a new sanitary landfill facility at Bartica, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven), $29,637,993 for the design of a similar facility at Mahdia, Potaro-Siparuni (Region Eight), and $48,164,627 for one, at Linden, Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region Ten).
Cabinet, according to Harmon, has given its no objections to contracts valued $18.2 million awarded to K.P. Thomas and Contracting Incorporated, for the installation of an elevator at the New Linden Hospital Complex; $110 million awarded to Khemraj Nauth Contracting Services for the upgrading of roads and the installation of water distribution mains at Zeeburg – de Willem, West Coast Demerara; $47 million awarded to J.R Ranch Incorporated for the rehabilitation of the roadway stretching from Lot # 1 — Brian Sucre Junction to Mahdia; $72.4 million to Mekdeci Mining Company Incorporated, for rehabilitation of the roadway stretching from Lot # 2 – Eagle Mountain foot to Konawaruk Junction; and $19.4 million awarded to SRT Mining and Contracting Services for the rehabilitation of pontoon structure at Trafalgar, West Coast Berbice.
Harmon also informed that contracts valued at $97.1 million and $103 million were awarded to Water and Oil Well Service Company Limited for the drilling of potable wells at Pouderoyen, and West-minster, on the West Bank Demerara, as well as, $108.6 million awarded to S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services, for the drilling of a well at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
Also, a $227.7 million contract was awarded to MEECO Group for the design, supply and installation of a 400KW solar farm at Mabaruma, Barima-Waini (Region One); $65.8 million to Farfan and Mendes Limited for the design, supply and installation of a solar photovolataic (PV) grid-tie systems under the sustainable energy programme for Guyana (pilot project); US$1.4 million awarded to ANGLOCO Limited for the supply of one multi-purpose fire rescue boat for the Guyana Fire Service; $6.5 million awarded to Cummings Electrical Company Limited for the supply and installation of light-emitting diode (LED) lamps and occupancy sensors at government buildings; $18 million awarded to Caribbean Medical Supplies Incorporated for the supply of blood bags; and US$146, 440 to Somerset Educational Limited (South Africa) for the procurement of micro science kits for national distribution.
Contracts totalling $189.6 million were also awarded to five companies for the procurement of new and reconditioned vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), flashlights with sirens and bicycles for the Guyana Police Force and the Customs and Anti-Narcotics Unit; and $20 million to Rose Ramdehol Auto Sales for the supply of four reconditioned minibuses for indigenous communities.
A $5 million contract was also awarded to F and H Printing Establishment, and a $29 million contract to Eniath’s Printing Company Limited for the supply and delivery of readers and workbooks for national distribution at the nursery level.
