Insurance company Nalico/Nafico last month paid over $1 million to Sentinel Security after the death of security guard Gerald Henry, who was fatally shot by bandits while on duty at a Liliendaal supermarket.
Cedric Browne, Sentinel’s Operations Manager, told Stabroek News that the payout was made possible because of the company’s non-contributory insurance scheme, paid by Sentinel on behalf of its officers. The benefits are paid to the family of those who die in the line of duty.
Henry, 64, was killed on June 30, while attempting to fight off bandits who attacked his place of work, the Good Luck supermarket, located at Lot 8 Block X, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
Previously of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Henry had worked for the security company for about four years.
It was previously reported that during the robbery, two bandits pounced on Henry. While attempting to relieve him of his weapon, a round was discharged and the man was wounded in the process. He was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
A few days after the shooting, Police Commander of ‘C’ Division, Calvin Brutus told Stabroek News that four persons were in custody in relation to the matter and two more were being sought.
