Dear Editor,
Re recent articles in Stabroek News and Kaieteur News:
- How can an Appeal Court order a Magistrate’s Court to cease functioning in a case?
- How can one political party grant an amnesty to another political party for a criminal offence?
- Are politicians above the law?
- How can a government agency not find finance to recover US$5 million?
Frankly the government should view these matters with serious concern as it reflects very badly on them. Is there any precedent for an Appeal Court interfering with a Magistrate’s Court before the Magistrate has made a ruling? Can the arguments made in the Appeal Court not be made in the Magistrate’s Court? Should the government be interfering with the judiciary?
Yours faithfully,
