An application made for Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan to appear before the Commission of Inquiry into the alleged plot to assassinate President David Granger has been denied by the Commissioner.

Paul Slowe, the Commissioner of the CoI, yesterday ruled at the reconvening of the inquiry that he would not be calling on Minister Ramjattan to give evidence before the commission.

The application for the minister to give evidence at the commission was made on August 2 by Christopher Ram, the attorney of Imran Khan, the brother of Nizam Khan. Nizam Khan is the person who was alleged to have sought the assassination.

Slowe yesterday said that he made his ruling after he went through statements given so far in the commission, evidence given by those who have testified and the terms of reference and he has not seen the need to call Ramjattan.

The commissioner told Ian Chang SC, the attorney on behalf of the police to notify Ram, who was absent from yesterdayโ€™s proceedings. Chang said that he would inform Ram of the commissionerโ€™s decision.

The public hearings of the commission will likely come to a close tomorrow. According to Slowe they will be working soon on the report for it to be handed over to the President.
