Dear Editor,
I attended a rehearsal for Carifesta on Monday evening, at the National Cultural Centre. I was excited at the prospect of getting a preview of the Guyana contribution to the festival, particularly the showcasing of our Masquerade band.
I tried on several occasions to describe our unique Guyanese Masquerade groove to my Barbadian brothers and sisters, and the fact that even with the same combination of instruments, we have our own thing.
I was sorely disappointed when I found out that Guyana will not be sending a Masquerade band to Carifesta.
What?!
How much more Guyanese can you get, than a Masquerade band?
Please, somebody, fix this!
