Samantha Bourne, who was charged with the attempted murder of her step-son after she allegedly stabbed him in his abdomen with a knife, was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the offence.
It was alleged that on May 28, at Lot 292 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, Bourne unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kevin Blair with the intent to commit murder.
At the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge yesterday, Bourne, having being called upon to lead a defence, called one witness, Esther Cumberbatch-Wilson.
Subsequently, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, wo presided over the inquiry, stated that there was sufficient evidence to commit the accused to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes for the charge of attempted murder.
With no objections to bail from Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, Chief Magistrate McLennan granted Bourne her release on $150,000 bail, pending her trial.
