ESPN and Lot-20 created the biggest upsets in the Third Annual Xtra Beer ‘Ballers in the Summer’ Street Football Championship, when they defeated West Front Road-Gold is Money and Sparta Boss, respectively on Wednesday night.
Staged at the Pouderoyen Market Tarmac, relative newcomers ESPN, orchestrated a master class defensive exhibition to blunt the offensive minded West Front Road unit which featured the likes of Randolph Wagner, Hubert Pedro, Carl Tudor and Jamal Pedro, and eventually prevailed 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks. The score line at the end of regulation time in the cagey affair was 0-0.
Similarly, Lot-20 overcame Sparta Boss via penalty kicks after normal time ended scoreless in the evenly contested affair. Meanwhile, Dave and Celina’s All-Stars riddled Shattaville Gunners 5-0. Rawle Gittens bagged a brace in the third and fifth minute, while Joel McKinnon recorded a double in the seventh and ninth minute. Adding to the score line in the 10th minute was Keon Sears. Tucville downed Albouystown 2-0. Jermaine Junior and Dennis Edwards found the back of the net in the second and 10th minute, respectively. In other results, Tajoe’s Admiral United downed Champion Boys 3-2 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended 2-2. Lexroy Manfield netted twice for Tajoe’s in the fifth and 10th minute. For the loser, Delroy Dodson and Seon Grant scored in the sixth and eighth minute apiece.
Tigerbay nipped Brothers United 1-0, compliments of a third minute strike from James Meredith.
The competition continues tonight at the same venue with another round of matches.
