The Guyana Senior Squash team departs today for the 15th Senior Caribbean Squash Championships, set for the Island of St. Vincent from August 13th – 19th.
The South Americans who last won the tournament in 2013, will be led by the 2017 men’s national champion Alex Arjoon who recently retained the title. Former world-rated player Nicolette Fernandes who dethroned defending ladies champion Ashley Khalil, in this year’s tournament, opted not to compete at the regional level for the final time, after announcing her retirement last month. The squad includes Taylor Fernandes and Shomari Wiltshire who had outstanding showings at the 2017 Junior CASA Championships, winning the Girls under-19 and Boys under–15 titles, respectively.
Defending champions, Trinidad and Tobago are expected to field a strong contingent, while Barbados and Jamaica are also in line to tussle with the Guyanese for this year’s title.
