Five men were last week arraigned in Bartica on rape charges in relation to two teen girls and were granted bail.
In one case, the men, Romario Smartt, Ryan Boodhoo, Dale Edwards and Kadasi De Gees are accused of raping a 16-year-old between January 1 and January 31, 2017 at 9th Avenue, Bartica.
They all appeared in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and were granted bail in the sum of $150,000 each.
Meanwhile, police said on August 10, Shawn Peters also appeared in the court and had the charge read to him in relation to another teen girl. He was placed on 200,000 bail.
Police said the men were charged based on advice sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The men were not required to plead to the charges.
