Mervin Blackman, one of the men charged with the Meadow Bank fish depot robbery last year, was yesterday hauled before a city court once again on charges that he had a pistol and ammunition.
Blackman, 25, a fish vendor, is accused of having a 9 mm pistol without being a licensed firearm holder on August 8 at South Ruimveldt.
On the same date, it is alleged that Blackman had seven live 9 mm rounds without being a licensed firearm holder.
Blackman denied the charges after they were read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted, while citing the fact that there were no special reasons presented to the court. It was also noted that Blackman has a pending charge of armed robbery before another court.
Magistrate Latchman subsequently denied the accused bail and adjourned the matter until August 28.
On December 6, 2016, Blackman was charged alongside Nizam Beni and Jason Brotherson with the fish depot robbery. The charge against the three men alleged that on December 2, 2016, at Meadow Bank Wharf, being armed with a gun, they robbed Shane Robin of $560,000 along with $1.5 million worth in fish glue. The stolen money and glue were the property of Leonard Jetoo.
