An Agricola father, Alwayne Benjamin, was yesterday charged with wounding his daughter, although the prosecution was unable to tell the court why he was charged with the offence.
Benjamin, 49, of 122 Caesar Street, Agricola, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Aloma Benjamin on August 8, at Kingston, Georgetown.
He denied the charge.
There were no details presented to the court in relation to the circumstances of the alleged wounding. The prosecutor only told the court that based on the medical certificate that was issued, the complainant had mild, soft tissue swelling. The prosecutor added that there were no lacerations and no bleeding. This prompted the magistrate to ask the prosecutor how the police were going to prove wounding if there was no sign of it. Based on the file the prosecutor received from the investigating rank, he noted that he would not be able to say.
Subsequently, the defendant was granted his release on $30,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until August 16, when it will be heard by Magistrate Dylon Bess.
