Two men were yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate after they were charged with the fatal stabbing of Rawle Rodrigues which occurred in January.
Afibia Yankana, 27, of Hadfield Street and Akeem Haymer were not required to plead to the charge which was read to them by Magistrate Judy Latchman which stated that on January 20, at Croal Street, Georgetown, they murdered Rawle Rodrigues, during the course of a robbery.
The defendants who appear-ed in court unrepresented were remanded to prison until August 22. Their matter was transferred to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan’s Court 1 for report.
As previously reported by Stabroek News, Rodrigues, 43, of 64, Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was in the vicinity of the Dairy bus park (Parfaite Harmonie) at around 21:30hrs, when he had an altercation with two men. One of the men later stabbed him in the chest. Rodrigues was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
