University of Guyana (UG) Trojans edged Eagles 78-77, while Colts whipped Pacesetters 93-55 when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Under-23 League Championship continued on Wednesday at the Burnham Court at Carmichael and Middle streets.
Trojans survived a second half surge from Eagles to clinch the hard-fought result. Leading 45-33 entering the third quarter, Trojans had their lead reduced, as they were outscored 19-16 to enter the fourth period ahead at 61-52.
The Turkeyen-based unit then held on in the final stanza, as they were out-hustled 25-17. Initially, Trojans had raced ahead to a 21-17 lead at the end of the first period.
Trojans built on their advantage in the second quarter, netting 24 points, while restricting Eagles to 16 points, to enter the halftime interval in control at 45-33.
Darrol Williams top scored for Trojans with 21 points. The next best scorer with 16 points was Sherland Gillis, while Kadeem Peterkin, Cubator Stepaer and Rondel Holder added 12, seven and six points, respectively.
For Eagles, Travis Belgrave recorded a game high 27 points, while Kewesi Thompson and Shamar Huntley supported with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Contributing eight points was Patrice Agrippa.
Meanwhile, Colts dismantled Pacesetters 93-55 in the second fixture of the division. Domair Gladstone tallied a game high 27 points in the rout. He was assisted by the duo of Timothy Thompson and Romain Fogenay, who added 17 points each.
Chipping in with 10 and eight points were Oliver Leonard and Jafar Gibbons, respectively. For the loser, Tafawa Daly top scored with 16 points, while Marvin Durant, Kerrol Phillips and Quincy DosSantos added 11, nine and eight points, apiece.
