With reference to a letter published in your newspaper on August 18 captioned ‘Unauthorised group soliciting donations for Belle Vue sports club’, I am sure that you were not aware of the full facts of the matter before publication.
As it is the group that wrote to you acquired the rights to the name ‘Belle Vue Sports Club’ from the National Sports Commission (NSC) under questionable circumstances. While the group which wrote to you has registered the name with the NSC, the other group is registered and has been playing active cricket with the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA), which is an association of the Guyana Cricket Board under the name ‘Belle Vue Sports Club’.
The group that wrote to you applied to the WDCA group to function under the name, but their application was denied.
As it is right now one group is registered with the NSC and the other is registered with the WDCA. It should be noted that the WDCA by virtue of the Guyana Cricket Board is registered with the NSC.
We have sent an email to the Director of Sport, Mr Christopher Jones and while we are
sure that the email was delivered to him, we are not sure if he read it, so we will send him a formal request next week if he does not reply. While we will not force our position on anyone, we want to make clear where we stand on the matter.
