(Reuters) – Spanish fourth seed Garbine Muguruza played flawlessly to crush Simona Halep 6-1 6-0 in a one-sided women’s final at the Cincinnati Open yesterday.
Muguruza’s tennis was as hot as the summer sun in the early afternoon match on the outdoor hardcourt, as she wrapped up victory in less than an hour.
The Wimbledon champion improved her career record to 3-1 against Romanian second seed Halep.
With the disappointing loss, Halep squandered a chance to supplant Karolina Pliskova as the world number one.
