A 94-year-old pensioner was yesterday charged with forgery.
It is alleged that Fritz Rupert Lewis conspired with persons and forged a transport, No. 380 of 1981, between November 1, 2003 and November 30, 2003, at Georgetown.
Lewis, of 68 First Street Cummings Lodge, denied the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
Attorney Roger Yearwood, who represented Lewis, told the court that ranks searched his client’s home prior to him being charged and indicated that he was wanted for questioning.
He noted that the matter was pending since 2013 and his client would have reported to the police since that time although he had stopped hearing from them. He was also ordered to lodge his passport.
Yearwood requested reasonable bail for Lewis, while noting that he is not a flight risk.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore subsequently told the court that he had no objection to bail being granted. He, however, requested that conditions be applied.
Chief Magistrate McLennan later granted Lewis his release on $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter to August 30.
