The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday reported decreases in serious crimes for the months of June and July.
A statement issued yesterday by the GPF stated that a 7% decrease in serious crimes was recorded for June and an 11% decrease in serious crimes for July, in comparison with the same periods last year.
Serious crimes include murder, armed robbery, robbery with violence, robbery with aggravation, rape, kidnapping, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, and burglary.
For June, the GPF said, there was a 16% decrease in murder; a 4% increase in robbery where no instruments were used; a 5% decrease in armed robbery where firearms where used; a 4% decrease in armed robbery where instruments other than firearms were used; a 64% increase in robbery with violence; a 3% increase in robbery with aggravation; a 53% increase in larceny from the person; a 6% decrease in rape; a 1% decrease in burglary; and a 19% decrease in break and enter and larceny.
For July, it added, there was an 18% decrease in murder; a 4% increase in robbery where no instruments were used; a 17% decrease in armed robbery where firearms were used; a 4% decrease in armed robbery where instruments other than firearms were used; a 48% increase in robbery with violence ; a 12% increase in robbery with aggravation; a 26% increase in larceny from the person; a 10% decrease in rape; a 2% decrease in burglary; and a 20% decrease in break and enter and larceny.
Meanwhile, the GPF statement also reported that 81 illegal firearms, comprising 51 pistols, 10 revolver, 12 shotguns, and eight rifles, have been taken off the streets so far for this year, compared to 40 for the corresponding period last year.
