(Barbados Nation) Don’t give money to anyone soliciting funds to send the body of Petal Frank back to Guyana.
This is the plea from Guyana’s Consul General to Barbados, Cita Pilgrim, who told NATION News someone was at the CARIFESTA Grand Market conducting the scam.
Frank, who was a member of Guyana’s delegation to CARIFESTA XIII, passed away on Friday at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a result of complications from diabetes.
“The scam is there is someone going around in the market areas soliciting funds for repatriating her body.
The family has not given permission for anyone to do that and the Government of Guyana has the situation entirely in hand,” Pilgrim said.
The matter has been reported to police who have officers patrolling the area, but Pilgrim also urged anyone who was approached to report the matter to the police and give them a description of the person(s).
Frank, 46, took ill on Wednesday. She leaves six children, ages 16 to 24, to mourn.
She was an artisan, offering hats, clothing and craft for sale.
Pilgrim also extended condolences on behalf of the consulate staff here.
“The Guyana Consulate in Bridgetown offers condolences to the Frank Family.
It has been a shocking thing for our staff as well as her family. We have a delegation of 140 and it has been quite shocking and unexpected.”
