Members of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) met recently with Director of Sports Christopher Jones where a number of issues were discussed ahead of the upcoming seventh annual Guyana Softball Cup tournament.
According to a press release from the GFSCA, the meeting was held August 23rd at Jones’ Homestretch Avenue office and the annual International softball tournament was among the items discussed.
Some nine teams from the United States of America (New York and Florida) and Canada have already entered the tournament.
“With the many local team expected to play, GFSCA will find it very challenging to choose teams to play and complete the tournament within the three days,” stated the release from the organisers. According to the release Jones was also briefed on other GFSCA activities namely the recent all-weather cricket practice facility at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground, Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown.
Four years ago the GFSCA provided floodlights for the DCC ground, and at the moment the GFSCA in conjunction with the DCC is running off a nationwide hardball U13 tournament, sponsored by Well Teen, Trophy Stall, Tropical Spring Waters & Nauth Motor Spares.
Earlier this year the GFSCA participated in softball tournaments held in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, New York and Canada. They were champions in the Masters category in Orlando and New York, and will be the defending champions at the Guyana Softball Cup 7 with Speed Boat the defending champion in the Open Category.
