Eagles survived a fourth quarter barrage to nip Kobras 83-82 in their Under-23 matchup, while Sonics defeated UG Trojans 43-31 in the Open Division, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League Championship continued on Wednesday.
Comfortably ahead at 71-55 at the end of the third quarter at the Burnham Court, at Carmichael and Middle streets, Eagles held on to secure the contest, even though they were outscored 27-12 in the final period.
Earlier in the contest, Kobras took the lead, outshooting the Eagles squad, to lead 22-12 at the end of the first quarter.
However, Eagles reduced the margin to one point in the second period, recording 29 points whilst restricting Kobras to 20 points, to enter the halftime break trailing 42-41.
Eagles, building on their second quarter momentum, on the resumption of play in the third stanza, tallied 30 points to Kobras’ 13 points, to enter the fourth period, ahead at 71-55.
Alikosi Allicock led the birds with 22 points, with Travis Belgrave and Shamar Huntley adding 20 and 18 points, respectively. Chipping in with 11 points was Dequan Wray.
For Kobras, Amoniki John registered 22 points, while the trident of Rondel Archer, Akeem Morrison and Rawlewayne Payne assisted with 16, 15 and 14 points, respectively.
In the Open Division, Sonics downed University of Guyana (UG) Trojans 43-31. Trevor Smith bagged a game high 18 points in the low scoring affair, while Kerwin Jackson, Junior Lovell and Joel Schultz added eight, six and six points, respectively.
For the Trojans, Akeem Kanhai and Ewart Smith battled to 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The event resumes on Sunday at the same venue with another doubleheader.
