To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, set to be observed on September 10th, the Ministry of Public Health through its mental health unit will be hosting a free concert on the Seawall Bandstand on the same date between 4pm and 7om.
This year’s observance will be done under the theme ‘Mental Health is we Business: Take a minute and Let’s Talk’, and according to a press release form the ministry various local artists including those from the radio show Merundoi, Jazz and Poetry on a Stool and Ruth English (PAHO Contestant Winner) including others will be featured artistes.
The release said that that using this year’s theme and the concert, the unit is set to challenge the stigma attached to the disease of mental illnesses and help to promote positive changes in the way Guyanese treat persons suffering with these disorders.
World Suicide Prevention Day observed on September 10th every year to highlight global commitment and action to prevent suicide around the world. The International Association for Suicide Prevention, (IASP) collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), to host World Suicide Prevention Day.
