A police constable is currently under close arrest after he struck down and injured a pedestrian on Friday night while reportedly driving under the influence along the Stewartville Public Road, on the West Coast of Demerara.
Quintin Anderson, 49 of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, sustained a fractured left foot and is currently admitted as a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. His condition is listed as stable.
The accident occurred around 10.40pm. At that time, the rank was off-duty.
The police, in a statement said investigations revealed that the constable was proceeding in a car, HC 2850, along the northern carriageway of the road when Anderson allegedly crossed into the path of the vehicle and was hit. Anderson was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the hospital.
The 24-year-old police officer, who hails from Vreed-en-Hoop and is attached to ‘A’ Division, is under close arrest at the Leonora Police Station. A breathalyser test following the accident revealed that his breath alcohol content was above the legal limit.
