The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning of 18-year-old Devon George in the Mazaruni River two weeks ago.
George, of Leopold Street, was reportedly in a paddle boat on August 23, which was taking in water, attempting to cross the Mazaruni River when he went down without a sign.
Police sources explained that residents in the area heard George screaming before disappearing in the river but it was too late. His body was recovered the following day and a post-mortem examination revealed that he died by drowning, compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
Divisional Commander, Ravindradat Budhram, confirmed yesterday that the investigators were still in the vicinity of Poppy Show Landing doing their initial investigations and had not returned as yet.
