Colts and Pacesetters secured hard-fought wins in the Under-23 division when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League tournament continued Saturday at the Burnham Court on Carmichael and Middle Streets.
Colts survived a fourth-quarter surge from Kobras to clinch the game 69-67. Firmly in control at 51-41 following the end of the third period, Colts held on in the dying moments to secure the vital win as they were outscored 26-18 in the final quarter.
Prior to the tense finish, Colts secured a marginal lead in the first quarter which ended 18-17. The home side built on their advantage in the second period, netting 12 points while restricting Kobras to nine points, to enter the halftime interval ahead at 30-26.
Colts built on their advantage once more, outscoring Kobras 21-15 in the pivotal third period, to lead 51-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ramone Fogenay orchestrated the victory with the top score of 16 points while Damani Thomas and Jonathan Mangra assisted with 15 and 12 points respectively.
Contributing eight, six and five points apiece were Ronaldo Niles, Aubrey Campbell and Roydon Glasgow. For Kobras, Amoniki John recorded a game-high 25 points.
Rawlewayne Payne, Akil Hughes and Akeem Morrison assisted with 16, 12 and eight points each.
Meanwhile, Pacesetters schooled University of Guyana (UG) Trojans 48-42. Quincy Dos Santos top scored winner with 14 points, with Judah Stephney the next best scorer with 10 points.
Tafawa Daly scored seven points while Stephen Peters and Keon Marks each added six points.
Kadeem Peterkin netted the game-high 16 points for the University of Guyana Trojans.
He was supported by Sherland Gillis, Jabari Joseph, Darrol Williams and Shaquille Adonis, who netted nine, seven, four and four points respectively.
The event resumes on Wednesday at the same venue with another double-header.
