A fine all-round performance by former Berbice senior cricketer Anil Beharry Saturday evening, led a Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) team to a convincing seven-wicket win against Invaders Masters of Essequibo in a specially arranged friendly game under lights at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown, Georgetown.
On an excellent night for cricket, Beharry received support from GCA executive and captain of Transport Sports Club Shawn Massiah.
The two put together a match winning unbeaten partnership of 101 after their team was precariously placed at 35 for 3 in the seventh over. Massiah made an attacking 31 and Beharry 47. Yunis Yusuf contributed 27.
Earlier, the visitors won the toss and elected to take first strike. They made 134 for 9 off their allotted 20 overs. D. Lakhan top scored with 46.
He received admirable support from former national youth and Essequibo senior left arm spinner Beesham Seepersaud who made 34.
Eleven –year-old mystery spinner Romeo Deonarain, his father Ricky Deonarain, pacers Surendra Nauth and Massiah each captured two wickets while Beharry supported with one. In reply, Floodlights raced to 136 for 3 off 17.4 overs. Skipper Linden Daniels took 2 wickets and Seepersaud 1. Beharry was adjudged Man-of-the-Match.
